A Whole Lotta Stuff Goin’ On

Sept. 12, 2011
Happy Monday!

Wow! Where do I start? I have been extremely busy since I last posted. I finally finished my second novel, Epidemic in the Dark Lands, I turned another year older, my husband and I celebrated our 18 year anniversary, I made myself a new website, you can find it at I had quite a few book signings, I signed up for NaNoWriMo, I started on book 3, (which I’m calling Loombria) and we have started another school year. Whew! That is a lot of stuff in just a few months.

First, I will talk about book 2, Epidemic in the Dark Lands. My proofreader, Mrs. Lenda, read and corrected the manuscript and handed it back to me with her blessings and saying, it was an awesome read. I have been rolling it around in my head as what to do with book 2. I could use Tate, but they want too much money. I talked with several of my writer friends (Patty Wiseman, Lynn Hobbs, Jeannie Faulkner Barber and Amanda Stephens) and they gave me a lot of options to think about. Self publishing or I could go with a traditional publisher. I decided to take a leap of faith and go with a traditional publisher. My manuscript now rests in the hands of someone at TreasureLine Publishing. I am very nervous, hopeful and prayerful that she will like my book.

Book 3, Loombria is coming along nicely. I have had so many ideas for this book, that it keeps me up nights writing in my notebook. I can’t say a lot about it, or I will give away too many details. Just know this, the Misfits go on the adventure of a life time and meet some pretty dark creatures that will test their courage and their friendships.

Next, I signed up for NaNoWriMo month. For those that don’t know, this is an event that takes a lot of time, courage and heart to do. In the month of November, writers from all over the world, will write 50,000 words in one month. Basically you’re writing a novel. I have decided to participate. I just hope my family can do without me for a month, since I will be at the computer a lot. I will have to write 1,667 words a day in order to complete the 50,000 words. I have been practicing on book 3 and I have been FAILING with a capital F. I have only been writing 1,000 words a day. I have decided to try my hand at a murder mystery. To get in the mood, I have been watching shows like Murder, She Wrote, Miss Marple, Sherlock Holmes… and so on. I have been having weird dreams about this though. Maybe, I’m getting too much murder and mayhem. lol. If you could send me any prayers or luck, I would appreciate it.

And lastly, we started school. This is Caleb’s last year. It feels like yesterday I started homeschooling him. He was 4 1/2 years old. I don’t know what I will do without him next year when he goes off to college. I will certainly miss him. I still have my beautiful girls, Randi and Haylee. They brighten my day and that will help a lot next year. Randi is in the 10th grade this year and Haylee is in the 6th.

Well, to all of you that read my blog, I hope you are having good week so far and no murder and mayhem.

Cover For Epidemic In The Dark Lands

April 5, 2011

I have been very busy lately. School is winding down, so we have been working hard to finish. I have been spending a lot of time on my different websites promoting my book. We finally put in our garden, got our swimming pool ready for the summer, and we built a chicken tractor for our chickens. Randi and I have been spending a lot of time on the computer, trying to put together a cover for book two, Epidemic in the Dark Lands. I’m more than likely going to send the second book to another publisher, so they will come up with a cover for me, but it’s fun to mess around with. I have had so many problems with Tate Publishing. It’s not that I don’t like them, it’s just that they have made so many mistakes on my book. I understand how people can make mistakes, I make them all the time. But, it just seems they make them all on my stuff. The printing of the wrong manuscript for my book, my cover is messed up on the spine, and yesterday I found out that they have the wrong description for my book on Borders. UGH! Will it never end. I have a lot of writer friends that use Tate Publishing, and all they can say is praise. Maybe, it’s just me. I’m like a magnet for problems.

Back to the cover. Randi is only 14 and she is awesome with a computer. I am very proud of her. I am not so awesome with a computer, so all I can do is tell her what I like. She took a picture of my eyes and we went from there.

Here is where I tell you about Epidemic in the Dark Lands. When Andy thought he was dying in Book one, Shadow Man, he buried the Jewel of the Races in the Dark Lands. This started a chain reaction of events.  A tree grows from the jewel and produces a very mouth watering, looking fruit. One of the Shadow People eats a fruit and becomes infected with the evil from the jewel. The evil starts a plague and infects all of the Shadow People.  They become zombiefied, and Andy and the Misfits have find out how to stop the epidemic before it’s too late. I won’t tell you anymore, or I’ll ruin the plot.

I’m pretty excited about book 2. My crazy brain has been working overtime on it. I just hope everyone enjoys it as much as they enjoyed Shadow Man. I personally think they will like it more. With that said, here is the link that shows what the book cover looks like. You will have to copy and paste it in the browser. Enjoy.

To all of my readers, I hope you have a non zombiefied day.

Last Chapter

Jan. 25, 2011

Well, I have finally done it. I know that several months ago, I said I was going to be done with book two, but I have been lazy, brain dead and busy promoting Shadow Man. Don’t think too badly of me, I have been writing on it pretty much every day. But I only get out a paragraph or two and then I want to go and do something else. Maybe I’m suffering from ADD. Isn’t that the excuse of every kid in America.

Anyway, yesterday I got on a writing kick like I haven’t had in a long time. Smoke was coming from my fingertips, I was writing so much and so fast. I typed about 2,200 words. For my brain, that is astronomical. I am now on the last chapter of the book! It feels so good to know that the light at the end of the tunnel, is shining down on me. That’s right, you heard me. The light is shining on me!!!! Let me hear you say, “Amen!”  While you are at it, give me a “Hallelujah!”

Here is where someone coughs the word, CRAZY!

Anywho…I have about 4,000 more words and then I get to print out my hard work and read every precious word. Of course,  after that I will have to start editing it. Being the nice person that I am, I will let you have a sample taste of the very last chapter of Prince Andy and the Misfits: Epidemic in the Dark Lands. I hope it gets your mouth watering for book two.  Here goes…

Andy reached into the glass case and picked up the yellowed paper. Everyone watched as his mouth read out the words. Words that were so disheartening to hear.
My ancestor was murdered for the sake of her race. So I have stolen the crown from it’s glass case. You will find me in a hollow, with no direction, while I keep the crown in my protection.
No map or compass will point the way. Which leaves me with one more thing to say. If you come looking for me, be prepared to fight. For I will protect the crown, with all of my might.

Tallulah P. Briar

Can’t wait till everyone reads book two! To all my readers, I hope you have a none ADD day.

Epidemic in the Dark Lands

I have been working on book two, Epidemic in the Dark Lands for about a year now. I’m on chapter 22.  I’m hoping to finish it in about two weeks, that’s if I have a clear calendar.  Then I can give it to my wonderful friend, Lenda Selph to proof read. (She is awesome. I don’t know what I would do without her.)  I won’t be allowed to send it to Tate until book one has sold so many copies. This is just standard procedure.  I think I’m more excited about book two, than I was book one.  For one thing, a lot of my characters are named after some of my favorite people in the world.  (You know who you are.) Book two also features my daughter Haylee as a big-hearted dragon. She is excited about that, especially since Caleb and Randi are in book one as characters.  I’m finally getting used to the fact that people will soon be reading my work. I was a little nervous about it at first, but now I’m excited.  I wish that you could read book two a lot quicker, but the publishing company is a lot like the Lord, they do things in their own time.

September 4, 2010

As I near the end of book 2, Epidemic in the Dark Lands, I’m getting that excited feeling for writing book 3. I just finished chapter 23 and have begun the next chapter. Everyone keeps asking how many chapters I’m going to have, and all I can answer is, “As many as it takes to finish the book.”  I’m a little disappointed with myself though with Epidemic in the Dark Lands. In Shadow Man I wrote a little over 83,000 words. Epidemic in the Dark Lands is going to be a hair shorter. I wanted it to be more, but I don’t I have that many words left in my head for this book. I’m hoping that as I reveiw chapters, I can add sentences here and there to make up or even exceed what I have written for Shadow Man. On the bright side, I am almost done. Yipee! Book  3 here I come.

Oct. 2, 2010

I am having a contest.  I need dragon kingdom names for book three.  The dragon kingdom is set in a volcano. The dragons are intelligent and the king of the dragons is King Granite. The contest will run through Nov. 30, 2010.  The winner will receive a free signed copy of Prince Andy and the Misfits, Shadow Man. Also, their name will be added to the acknowledgments  page in book three.  You can leave the names here in the comments section or put them on my Facebook page. Good luck.
